FDA warns – 5 varieties of Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauces recalled due to undeclared wheat

Due to undeclared wheat in the product, Vesta Fiery Gourmet Foods, Inc., based in Raleigh, North Carolina, has voluntarily recalled its 1.5oz glass jars of Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauce in five varieties: Vesta Ghost, Vesta Hot, Vesta Reaper, Vesta Scorpio, and Vesta Vary Hot.

Individuals who are allergic or severely allergic to wheat are warned that they could suffer a major, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction upon ingestion of the products.

Announced by Vesta Fiery Gourmet Foods, Inc. on January 8, 2024, the recall covers the following 1.5-ounce glass jars of Benny T’s Vesta Dry Hot Sauce, which all have a “Use By” date up to, and including, December 2024:

  • Benny T’s Vesta Ghost, UPC 7 94571 99498 0
  • Benny T’s Vesta Hot, UPC 7 94571 99497 3
  • Benny T’s Vesta Reaper, UPC 7 94571 99490 4
  • Benny T’s Vesta Scorpion, UPC 7 94571 99491 1
  • Benny T’s Vesta Very Hot, UPC 7 94571 99499 7

Affected products were distributed and made available for purchase from October 1, 2023 to January 4, 2024. Most of the glass jars were sold online, as well as in retail stores and deli cases across the United States. They can be found under the following lot numbers and expiration dates:

  • FX001500 (expiration date 09/2024)
  • FX001582 (expiration date 09/2024) NDC 0078-0110-22

Vesta Fiery Gourmet Foods, Inc. took action soon after being alerted by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, who noted that the product label does not indicate that the flour included is in fact wheat flour.

While  has not received any reports of related illness to date, anyone who may have purchased an affected item is asked to refrain from consuming it and to dispose of it.
