FDA warns – Yummy Swirly Ices line recalled due to potential traces of undeclared milk

According to the FDA, Edison, New Jersey-based Yummy Foods has recalled its line of Yummy Swirly Ices, marketed as non-dairy products, due to the potential presence of milk, a major allergen not listed on the ingredient list.

Although officials are recalling the entire product line, consumers may identify the items by lot numbers 68/2 and 69/1, as well as expiration dates 5/28/2026 and 5/30/2026, respectively. The following product varieties are affected:

  • Swirly Tropical Melon
  • Swirly Berry Blast
  • Swirly Tropical Tornado
  • Swirly Churning Cherry
  • Swirly Variety Pack

Those who live with an allergy or major sensitivity to milk are advised against consuming the products to avoid the risk of a serious, life-threatening allergic reaction.

Despite the mislabeling, consumers are assured that the products are all still deemed kosher parve by the CRC Kashrus Agency.

Announced by the company on August 7, 2024, the recall covers products that were made available for purchase at retail supermarkets in seven different U.S. states: New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Ohio, Chicago, Florida, California. Packaged in printed boxes bearing the Yummy logo, Yummy Swirly Ices can typically be found in the frozen section of independent kosher stores.

Officials first took action after receiving a report of discomfort from one milk-sensitive customer who had consumed a Swirly Ice.

At the time of the FDA announcement, Yummy Foods was still working to determine the origin of the cross-contamination.

Those who suffer from a sensitivity or allergy to milk should refrain from eating the products. Consumers seeking a complete refund may return the item(s) to the point of purchase.
