FDA warns – Whitley’s Peanut Factory recalls 12oz Deluxe Nut Mix due to multiple undeclared allergens

According to the FDA, Hayes, Virginia-based Whitley’s Peanut Factory has recalled its 12oz Deluxe Nut Mix under certain code dates due to the potential presence of five allergens (peanuts, milk, soy, wheat, and sesame) which are not declared on the product’s ingredient statement.

Those who live with an allergy or sensitivity to peanuts, milk, soy, wheat and/or sesame are advised against consuming the product, as they could otherwise suffer a major, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

First announced by the company on January 18, 2024, the recall covers Deluxe Nut Mix that was distributed and made available to wholesalers and retail customers across the U.S. from August 21st, 2023 to January 10th, 2024. Customers were able to buy the affected products via the company website (www.WhitleysPeanut.com), via mail-order catalogue, or from a limited number of retail stores in the U.S.

Some time after the Quality Assurance Department learned of an issue that resulted in a number of 10.5oz Whit’s Party Mix tins bearing the label for “12oz Deluxe Nut Mix,” company officials initiated action. The recall has since been expanded to cover products under the prior production date and past the time when Whitley’s Peanut Factory was first alerted to the problem.

Consumers should note that even as both Whit’s Party Mix and Deluxe Nut Mix are products that contain almonds, Whit’s Party Mix contains peanuts, milk, soy, wheat, and sesame ingredients that are not listed on its product label,

To identify a recalled product under the “Deluxe Nut Mix” label, the manufacturing code can be found on the bottom of the tin. The following lot codes, under UPC Code 703795000551, are impacted: MFG 22823; MFG 25023; MFG 25823;MFG 29323; MFG 35623.

While Whitley’s Peanut Factory has not been alerted to any reports of related illness or injury to date of the FDA announcement, customers are asked to check any “Deluxe Nut Mix 12oz” tins they may have purchased for the above lot codes. To obtain a complete refund, customers may reach out to the company’s Customer Service team. Any mislabeled tins should otherwise be safely discarded. In the event of an allergic reaction, consumers should seek immediate medical attention.

Further recall-related questions may be directed to the company via CustomerCare@WhitleysPeanut.com, or by calling 1-800-470-2244 on Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
