Marysville, Michigan-based Gaws Gourmet Foods has recalled three varieties of its 8-inch deli subs and two varieties of its breakfast bagel sandwiches due to the potential presence of undeclared sesame, according to the FDA.
Consumers who are allergic or sensitive to the allergen are warned that they could suffer a major, life-threatening allergic reaction if they ingest the products.
Initiated by the company on November 30, 2023, the recall covers subs and sandwiches that were distributed and made available for purchase across southeast Michigan retail stores and bars.
All varieties of the two products are packaged in clear plastic wrap bearing expiration dates between “11-8” and “12-15” on the back.

Action was taken when officials learned that products containing sesame were distributed in packaging that does not list sesame as an allergen on the ingredient list. A breakdown in the company’s labeling protocols was identified as the culprit.
As the company collaborates with the FDA to correct the problem, all production of the product has been put on hold.
While Gaws Gourmet Foods has not received any reports of illness in connection to the issue, anyone who may have purchased an affected item is encouraged to return it to the place of purchase to receive a complete refund.
