FDA Warns – Unilever recalls 11 lots of single-serving Popsicle Jolly Rancher Frozen Confection Pop products after detection of undeclared milk

Almost two weeks ago, the FDA notified the public of Unilever’s recall of eleven lots of its single-serving Popsicle brand Jolly Rancher Frozen Confection Pop products. Unilever attributed the recall to the presence of undeclared milk in the popsicles.

The company issued the announcement on August 21st, clarifying that the recall applies only to the single-serving products and not to the boxed pops sold at grocery stores. Around 137,000 cases of Popsicle Jolly Rancher Frozen Confection Pops were included. These single-serving pops are typically sold in places that have “grab-and-go” freezers.

Unilever identified the following eleven lots of Popsicle Jolly Rancher Green Apple Blue Raspberry Grape Frozen Confection Pop with UPC# 077567003720 it its recall: MAY1725KY4, MAY1825KY4, MAY1925KY4, JAN3026KY4, JAN3126KY4, FEB0126KY4, MAR1226KY4, MAR1326KY4, MAR1426KY4, MAR1526KY4 and MAR1626KY4. The pops were sold to distributors in the United States between February 1, 2024, and August 15, 2024.

The single-serving Popsicle Jolly Rancher Frozen Confection Pops are sold in a yellow wrapper that reads, “Your FAVORITE candy flavors with a TWIST!” The front of the wrapper features both the Popsicle and Jolly Rancher brand logos and a picture of the frozen treat. Consumers and distributors can find the lot and UPC codes printed on the back of the wrapper along with the nutritional information.

Unilever has received two reports of allergic reaction in connection to the recalled product. The company has not disclosed the severity of these reactions. Milk is a common allergen that can cause serious adverse reactions up to and including death for people with milk allergies or severe sensitivities. Products containing even trace amounts of milk must include a disclosure of the allergen alongside the other ingredients.

Consumers and distributors are urged to review the recall announcement and to return the recalled product for a full refund. Anyone with questions can contact Unilever, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. EST, at (888) 926-3554. The company can be reached by email at MediaRelations.NA@unilever.com.
