FDA warns – Texas Pecan Company nuts, snack mixes, seeds, snack sticks recalled due to multiple undeclared allergens

According to the FDA, Dallas, Texas-based Texas Pecan has recalled a variety of its 1-pound and 8-ounce products because they may contain one or more of the following allergens: “tree nuts, peanuts, almonds, brazils, cashews, filberts, macadamias, pistachios, pecans, pine nuts,” and walnuts, as well as “soy, dairy (milk), sesame and wheat.”

Individuals who live with a sensitivity or allergy to any of the ingredients listed above are advised against consuming the products to avoid the risk of a major, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

Announced by the company on May 8, 2024, the recall only covers products that were made available for purchase at the Texas Pecan retail location or via the company’s website, www.texaspeca.com. They come packaged in 1-pound and 8-ounce clear poly bags bearing lot numbers, ranging between 23200 to 23265 and 24001 to 24079, printed on the bottom-left corner. As can be seen in the product photos attached to the FDA announcement, the bags can be identified by a prominent “Texas Pecan” label. A listed of all affected products, totaling over 125, can also be referenced in the communication.

Action was taken as a precautionary measure after a routine check conducted by the Texas Department of State and Health Services revealed the problem. Following an inspection of the machine that packaged the products, state officials determined that cross contamination was a possibility. Texas Pecan was further notified that while their product labels declare “tree nut” as an allergen, the ingredient panel failed to name each tree nut individually. In addition, while the packaging machine is properly cleaned, that process is not documented.

While officials say the 40-year-old company has not received any reports of any illness or allergic reaction in its history, consumers with any of the recalled products should discard the items or have them returned to Texas Pecan for a replacement or complete reimbursement. The company can be reached at 972-241-7878, Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central Time.
