FDA warns – Single lot of Van Leeuwen Vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert recalled due to undeclared peanuts

Van Leeweun Ice Cream, headquartered in Brooklyn, New York, has recalled pints of its Vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll under lot number 24V094 because the finished product may contain peanuts, an allergen not declared on its ingredient panel, reports the FDA.

Individuals who live with a severe allergy or sensitivity to peanuts are strongly advised against consuming the products, as they may suffer a major, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

To date of the FDA announcement, company officials say the voluntarily, limited recall now covers 4 pints of the following product with the corresponding details:

  • Vegan Pumpkin Cinnamon Roll
    • 14-ounce container
    • Lot number 24V094 (as printed on the bottom of the package)
    • Product UPC: 850005872375
    • Best-by date: 04/03/2026, or April 3, 2026 (printed on the bottom of the package)

Consumers should note that no other lots or varieties of the product are covered under the recall. As of this writing, Van Leeuwen has only received a single adverse reaction, though the exact nature and severity of that incident has not been disclosed.

The company initiated the recall on July 30, 2024, after determining that as many as 8 pints of the peanut-containing product were distributed and made available for purchase in packaging that does not indicate the presence of the allergen. While 4 pints have since been accounted for, officials continue to search for the remaining 4 pints out in distribution.

An investigation found that the problem originated with a mock case sample that was introduced into the distribution channel.

Anyone who may have purchased, or is otherwise in possession of, an affected product is instructed to reach out to Van Leeuwen Ice Cream via email at hello@vanleeuwenicecream.com regarding the next steps.
