FDA warns – Single lot of Nordic Naturals Baby’s Vitamin D3 Liquid recalled due to super potent dose of Vitamin D3

Nordic Naturals, of Watsonville, California, has voluntarily recalled a single lot of its Nordic Naturals Baby’s Vitamin D3 Liquid in 0.76 fluid ounces (22.5 ML), 400 IU (10mcg) D3, according to the FDA. Officials say a manufacturing error in products under lot number 234909 and expiration date December 2025 has given way to an “elevated level of Vitamin D3 dosage or super potent dose.”

The recall was announced by the company on February 17, 2024, after it was determined that long-term use of the product may produce an excess levels of vitamin D in infants, which has a tendency to cause “vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, frequent urination,” and a general “inability to thrive.”

Following the announcement, Nordic Naturals immediately alerted its distributors, retail partners, and customers of the concern via email. A return program for all now-recalled products has also been established.

Used as a dietary supplement for infants no older than 12 months old, affected products are packaged in boxes under SKU RUS=02733, which come with one bottle and one dropper to administer dosage. The lot number can be identified on the back of every product box and bottle.

While the company has not received any reports of adverse reactions about use of the product so far, anyone in possession of the product under an impacted SKU, lot number, and expiration date is urged to cease all use of the item. The product can be taken back to the point of purchase to receive a refund or to have the item replaced.

Authorities say 3,800 product units are impacted by the recall. Of that number, one-fifth of that number has already been credited back to the customer.

Consumers who observe any of the related symptoms in infants are strongly encouraged to report the incident to the agency’s MedWatch program. Those who would like to contact a representative may do so at the email address customerservice@nordicnaturals.com or by calling 888-294-7440. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST. Anyone experiencing health problems related to product use should seek medical attention.
