FDA warns – Single lot of Door County Love Dark Chocolate Cherry Granola recalled due to undeclared almonds

Ellison Bay, Wisconsin-based Kick Ash Products has recalled a single lot (#061241) of its Door County Love Dark Chocolate Cherry Granola because the product contains almonds, a major allergen not declared in the ingredient list on its label, reports the FDA.

Individuals who live with an allergy or major sensitivity to almonds are warned that consuming these products could produce a major, life-threatening allergic reaction.

Distributed in Ellison Bay, Wisconsin, affected packages of Door County Love Dark Chocolate Cherry may have reached consumers at the Ellison Bay retail store or via online orders placed at kickashproducts.com from 2/26/24 to 3/11/24.

As pictured in the product photo attached to the FDA announcement, the product comes in brown plastic bags bearing a red label and a clear viewing window. Only products under Lot #061241 and Best By date 08/31/24–both found printed at the top of the package–are covered under the recall.

Officials say it was discovered that Dark Chocolate Cherry Granola, which contains almonds, were placed in packaging that failed to declare the presence of the nuts. Further investigation found that the problem may be attributed to at least a partial breakdown in Kick Ash Products’ product protocols.

Although Kick Ash Products has not received any reports of illness in connection to the issue to date, anyone who may have a package of Kick Ash Door County Love Dark Chocolate Cherry Granola under the above lot # and “best by” date should have the item returned to the company for a complete refund.
