According to the FDA, Brooklyn, New York-based Hearty Acquisitions Inc. has recalled its “Tomato Basil with Rice” in 16oz containers because they were found to actually contain Butternut Squash Bisque, which features soy, an allergen not declared on the product label.
Individuals with an allergy or sensitivity to soy are advised against consuming the product, as they could suffer a major, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction as a result.
Affected containers of “Tomato Basil With Rice,” marked with expiration date 3/22/2024, were distributed and made available for purchase in the following retail stores across the state of New York:
- Food Garden Market
- Windsor Market
- Lincoln Market
- Food Universe
The recalled pints of “Tomato Basil With Rice” are packaged in clear, plastic containers marked with lot #03222024 along the top side lid. The expiration date (“03/22/2024”) and UPC (635508547872) can also be used to identify the product.
Heart Acquisitions Inc. inited the recall on February 1, 2024 after learning that the brand’s Butternut Squash Bisque was packaged and distributed as “Tomato Basil With Rice,” which does not declare the presence of soy, a major allergen found in the bisque product. The mislabeling was later found to have occurred during the product’s boxing process.
While the company has not received any reports of illnesses to date, anyone who may be in possession of a 16-ounce “Tomato Basil With Rice” under expiration date 3/22/2024 is asked to discard of the product or return it to the point of purchase for a total refund. Further questions may be directed to Heart Acquisitions Inc. at 718-640-1854.
