FDA warns – Nutrena Country Feeds Meatbird 22% Crumble recalled by Cargill due to lack of Vitamin D

Animal nutrition business Cargill has announced a recall of Nutrena Country Feeds Meat bird 22% Crumble (RV) because the product after the product was found to be missing Vitamin D, according to the FDA.

Growing birds who consume a diet lacking in the vitamin can suffer mineral deficiencies and bone problems, such as rickets, which produces symptoms like “lameness and rubbery bones.”

Initiated by Cargill on April 13, 2024, the recall covers products that were manufactured and made available for purchase in retail stores across markets in the eastern United States: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia.

Consumers are advised that affected Nutrena Country Feeds Meatbird 22% Crumble (RV) products come packaged in green 50-pound bags with the lot code and manufacture date printed on the bottom-right side of its label, as shown in the product photo included in the FDA announcement.

Company officials say they were quick to investigate and learn of the product’s non-inclusion of Vitamin D after receiving a single report describing young meat birds who were diagnosed with rickets.

For a replacement product or complete refund, anyone who is in possession of affected bags of Nutrena Country Feeds Meatbird 22% Crumble (RV) is urged to return any remaining product to an area animal feed dealer or retailer. Consumers may contact Cargill at 800-441-2699 Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time for further information.
