FDA Warns – Naturipe Value Added Fresh LLC recalls Berry Buddies, Berries and Pancakes snack packs, citing undeclared milk and wheat

A labeling error has prompted Naturipe Value Added Fresh LLC to recall one lot of their Berry Buddies, Berries & Pancakes snack packs. According to the FDA, the labeling error resulted in undeclared milk and wheat ingredients.

Naturipe initiated the recall on Tuesday, February 18th. The lot number for the recalled snack packs is 1097901 with an expiration date of 2/25/2025. The company distributed the packs to Kroger and Meijer stores in 13 states in the U.S., including AR, MI, OH, TN, VA, MN, KY, IN, IL, MO, MS, WV, and WI. The product is packaged in a 2.1-ounce plastic package with a pink, purple, and white label. The label features the brand and products names and the Produce Moms Approved™ seal. The top of the label depicts two blueberry characters pouring syrup over a smiling pancake character. Customers can find the lot number and expiration date marked on the top of the container.

As of February 18th, Naturipe has not received any reports of injury or illness linked to consumption of the recalled product. The company announced the recall after finding that the wrong rear label had been affixed to containers from 694 cases of the recalled “Berry Buddies, berries & pancakes” snack packs. The label included with the packaging does not list wheat and eggs, both of which are ingredients in the product. The company claims to have remedied the error in all subsequent lots of the product.

Wheat and egg allergies are among the most common food allergies. As explained by the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, the Food Allergy Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 requires all food manufacturers in the United States to list wheat and egg ingredients on their product labels. Allergic reactions to wheat and egg can cause a variety of symptoms, including skin rash, congestion, gastrointestinal pain, diarrhea, vomiting, and swelling of the mouth and throat. In rare cases, either allergen can also trigger anaphylaxis, which can be fatal without prompt administration of epinephrine.

Naturipe Value Added Fresh LLC encourages all customers who have purchased the recalled product and have allergies or sensitivities to eggs or wheat to return the product to the point of purchase for a full refund.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the recall can contact the company directly by phone at 1-239-598-6045 or by email at info@naturipefarms.com.
