According to the FDA, as many as 19 different packaged vegetable products have been recalled by Supreme Service Solutions LLC because of a potential Listeria monocytogenes contamination. Announced by the company on July 26, 2024, the action concerns Supreme Produce-branded items that originated from Weirs Farm Inc. and distributed to Kroger retail stores across five U.S. states: Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, and Ohio.
While healthy people infected with Listeria typically experience short-term symptoms that include “high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea,” the infection has been known to turn serious, and even fatal, in those with weakened immune systems, such as young children and elderly individuals. Pregnant women who become infected may suffer miscarriages and stillbirths.
The affected products appear to be cut produce which come packaged in clear plastic to-go containers in a range of sizes. A complete list of the 19 products, along with their corresponding bar code UPCs and “Best By” dates, can be referenced in the chart featured in the announcement.
Officials said action was taken following routine sampling by the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), which revealed the potential contamination.
To date, the company has not received any complaints or reports of related illness. While the recalled products have by now surpassed their shelf life and retail partners were instructed to take the items out of distribution, consumers in possession of any such products are urged to dispose of them; the products should not be consumed.
Anyone with health questions or concerns in connection to this recall is instructed to consult their medical provider.
General recall-related questions may be addressed to Kroger through the company’s Customer Support Line at the contact number and during the days and hours listed in the FDA announcement.
