According to the FDA, Mexican Style Street Corn Bites, which contains Cotija cheese, has been voluntarily recalled by The Perfect Bite Co., of Glendale, California, because the product may be contaminated by the microbe Listeria Monocytogenes.
Officials say the product’s Cotija Cheese, which was produced by Rizo-Lopez Foods, Inc. on February 5, 2024, is included in a recall.
In healthy people, a Listeria infection may manifest in short-lived symptoms like “high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea,” but can lead to miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women. The infection can also turn serious and sometimes fatal in those with weakened immune systems, including young children and frail and elderly individuals.
Distributed to Costco warehouses across California and Hawaii, Mexican Style Street Corn Bites with Cotija Cheese comes packaged in a sealed tray within a box bearing Lot #223231 and “Best By” date 2/21/2025, which can be identified on the box’s right-hand side panel.
Since the recall, first announced February 10, 2024, all production of the product has been suspended.
While The Perfect Bite Co. has not received any reports of illness to date, anyone who may be in possession of a package of Mexican Style Street Corn Bites under lot code 223231 is asked to refrain from eating the product. The item may be brought back to the point of purchase for a total refund.
Further questions or comments may be directed to the company at 818-507-1527, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. PST.
