FDA warns – Melissa’s brand fresh organic basil in 2.0 oz, 4.0 oz packages included in Infinite Herbs LLC recall

Consumers are advised that Melissa’s brand fresh organic basil in 2.0-ounce and 4.0-ounce packages are now included in a April 19, 2024 recall initiated by Miami, Florida-based Infinite Herbs LLC.

The Melissa’s brand portion of the recall covers 96 2.0-ounce packages of fresh organic basil under UPC 0 45255 14142 9 and 24 4.0-ounce packages of the product under UPC 0 45255 14439 0 that were distributed between February 10th and 20th to Dierberg’s stores across Illinois and Missouri.

Officials say the above products are part of a previously-recalled lot that was identified as being potentially contaminated with the organism Salmonella. In young children and those with weakened immune systems, such as frail and elderly people, a Salmonella infection can turn serious and sometimes fatal.

While the affected packages of Melissa’s brand fresh organic basil are now outdated and are no longer available for purchase in the above stores, any remaining product in consumer refrigerators or freezers should not be consumed.

Further recall-related questions may be directed to Infinite Herbs LLC at 305-599-9255, Extension 148, or via email at customer_service@infiniteherbs.com. Representatives are available Monday through Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

The FDA continues to monitor this recall.
