On Friday, Lifestyle Evolution Inc. voluntarily recalled several lots of their NuGo Dark Chocolate Chip and Dark Chocolate Pretzel nutrition bars after testing confirmed undeclared milk ingredients in the product. According to the FDA, several retailers initiated a recall of these same products a month prior.
The items included in the recall are the NuGo Dark Chocolate Chip (Item number 52101 with Manufacturing Codes C24234B, C24235A, C24235B, and C24236A), the NuGo Chocolate Pretzel with Sea Salt (Item number 52901 with Manufacturing code B24227B), the NuGo Dark Multipack Chocolate Chip (Item number 52901 with Manufacturing codes B24235A and B24235B), and the NuGo Dark Multipack Chocolate Pretzel with Sea Salt (Item number 52101 with Manufacturing codes B24236B and C24236A). Lifestyle Evolution Inc. sells the NuGo nutrition bars through various retailers nationwide and via online platforms. The “Best By” dates for the recalled NuGoDark Chocolate Chip bars are 12/21/2025, 12/22/2025, and 12/23/2025. The “Best By” date for the NuGo Chocolate Pretzel with Sea Salt bars is 12/14/2025. The “Best By” dates for the NuGo Dark Multipack Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Pretzel with Sea Salt bars are 12/22/2025 and 12/23/2025.
Lifestyle Evolution’s recall is part of an earlier recall initiated on December 2nd by Amazon, Costco, Wegmans, and Giant Eagle. Thus far, the company has received at least 11 reports of allergic reaction linked to the recalled nutrition bars. The company has since determined that the products in question contain milk and that the labeling for the recalled products does not list milk ingredients. Lifestyle Evolution Inc. has not shared any details about the manufacturing or production errors that may have caused their problem with an undeclared allergen.
According to Mayo Clinic, consumption of milk products can cause a variety of symptoms in a person with a milk allergy. Symptoms might include gastrointestinal pain and upset, bloody stool, congestion, skin reactions, itchiness, swelling of the mouth or throat, and in severe cases, anaphylaxis. If left untreated, anaphylaxis can be fatal. Because allergic reactions to milk can be serious, it is vital that companies list all milk products on their labels.
Lifestyle Evolution Inc. asks that customers return all recalled products to the point of purchase.
