Hamtramck, Michigan-based Home Style Foods, Inc. has recalled 43 cases of its “Kowalski Simply Sides – Jack’s Potato Salad” because the product label does not list egg as an allergen on its ingredient panel.
Consumers who live with an allergy or a serious sensitivity to eggs are advised against consuming the product to avoid the risk of a major, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.
Initiated by Home Style Foods, Inc. on April 10, 2024, the voluntary recall covers Kowalski Simply Sides – Jack’s Potato Salad that were distributed to 25 stores across Michigan. The stores include 21 Kroger locations, Diamond Dot Market, Holiday Market Royal Oak, Larry’s Foodland, and Tenuta’s Market.
While the affected product comes in a 16-ounce plastic deli cup with labels on the top and front identifying it as Kowalski Simply Sides – Jack’s Potato Salad, and with a printed sell-by date of 04/29/2024, its back label with the Nutrition Facts and Ingredients panels for “Very Berry Strawberry.”
Officials say a “routine documentation review” by the company’s Quality Assurance team found that the cups were incorrectly labeled during the filling process.
Although Home Style Foods, Inc. has not been made aware of any related illnesses to date, anyone who may have purchased the product under the above sell-by date is encouraged to return the item to the store of purchase to receive a complete refund.
