FDA warns – Innovation Bakers, LLC recalls lot of 7-11 Fudge Brownies distributed in SoCal due to undeclared walnuts

The FDA notified the public Wednesday of a recall initiated by Innovation Bakers, LLC of one lot of its 7-11 Fudge Brownie product. The company attributes the recall to the undeclared presence of walnuts in the brownies.

Innovation Bakers announced the decision on Tuesday, September 10th and clarified that the recall applies to 2,081 individually-wrapped fudge brownies. The UPC for the 7-11 Fudge Brownie is 05254856392 with the lot # appearing on packaging as “Lot Code: Best By Wednesday 0911.” The company says the brownies were distributed to 7/11 stores in Southern California earlier this week on September 8th and 9th.

The 7-11 Fudge Brownies are sold in a clear wrapper with the orange, red, and green 7-11 logo. The front of the wrapper reads, “Fudge Brownie with chocolate chips” and lists the product weight as 3.5 oz. The back of the label includes the nutritional information, declared ingredients, the UPC with barcode, and the lot number (best by date).

Walnuts are a type of tree nut that can cause serious reactions up to and including death in people with tree nut sensitivities or allergies. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, tree nut allergies are extremely common, and per the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004, companies are required to declare their presence in consumer goods.

Innovation Bakers has not received any reports of illness or allergic reaction thus far from consumption of or exposure to the product. They urge customers who may have purchased a 7-11 Fudge Brownie with Lot Code: Best By Wednesday 0911 to discard the product or return it to the point of purchase for reimbursement.
