The California company 4Earth Farms announced a recall last Tuesday of several of their fresh and frozen mixed vegetable products due to concerns about possible contamination with E. coli O121:H19. According to the FDA, the recall is connected to a larger recall of carrots supplied by Grimmway Farms, Inc.
Five brands are included in 4Earth Farms’ recall, including Wild Harvest, Marketside, 4Earth Farms, UNFI, and Grimmway. The products included in the recall are as follows:
- Wild Harvest Organic Vegetable Medley 12oz (UPC 711535517733)
- Marketside Organic Vegetable Medley 12oz (UPC 681131179461)
- Marketside Vegetable Medley 32oz (UPC 681131457378)
- Marketside Vegetable Medley 12oz (UPC 681131328791)
- Marketside Stir Fry Medley 12oz (UPC 681131457460)
- 4Earth Farms Organic Vegetable Medley 12oz (UPC 803944306999)

- 4Earth Farms Vegetable Medley 12oz (UPC 803944307064)
All of the recalled products have a “Best By” date that falls between September 7, 2024 and November 02, 2024. The company distributed the products to retailers in seven U.S. states, including New Hampshire, Florida, California, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Illinois, and Colorado. The retailers linked to the above products include Albert’s Organics, Walmart, O.K. Produce, UNFI, Kennedy Produce, and Sprouts Farmers Market.
The company has not received any reports of illness connected to their products thus far. 4Earth recalled the listed products after learning of an E. coli outbreak tied to carrots from Grimmway Farms, which is the supplier for the carrots contained in the products. Consumers can learn more about the recent carrot recall here.
According to the FDA, ingestion of E. coli O121:H19, or Shiga toxin-producing E. coli, typically causes gastrointestinal symptoms, such as nausea, vomiting, cramping, and diarrhea. Some people may experience bloody stool. The illness usually resolves in five to seven days but can cause complications in very young children, the elderly, or people with compromised immune systems. Complications might involve “severe bloody diarrhea conditions, such as a hemolytic uremic syndrome, or the development of high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and neurologic problems.”
None of the products listed are currently on retail shelves, but 4Earth urges customers to check the “best by” dates on all products in their refrigerators and freezers. All recalled products should be discarded immediately, as consumption could cause illness. Additionally, customers should disinfect any surfaces or dishes that may have come in contact with the products.
Anyone with questions or concerns about the recall can contact 4Earth Farms Monday through Friday at 855-918-1706 (8am-4:30pm, PST).
