FDA warns – Dynarex Corporation recalls 62 cases of Dynacare Baby Power due to potential contamination with asbestos

On Thursday, the FDA published an announcement released by Dynarex Corporation regarding a recall of 62 cases of their Dynacare Baby Powder. The company initiated the recall after FDA sampling detected asbestos in the product.

Dynarex announced the recall on September 19th, specifying that it applies to cases from Batch Number B 051 with an internal product number of 4875. The product was sold after March 11, 2024, via Amazon or at retail stores in twelve states in the U.S., including Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Florida, Washington, and Wisconsin. The expiration date for the recalled batch is 2026/12/28.

Dynacare Baby Powder is sold in a white plastic bottle with a front label identifying the product as “Baby Powder” and featuring the slogan, “We Care Like Family.” The colors on the label are blue, white, and red, and the net weight listed for the product is 14 ounces. Customers can find the batch number, manufacture date, and expiration date on the bottom of the bottle. Distributors and retails can find this information printed on the box, each of which contains 24 bottles of Dynacare Baby Powder.

The main ingredient in baby powder is talc, and asbestos contamination is a common concern for talc products because both talc and asbestos are naturally-occurring minerals found in the earth. According to the EPA, inhalation of asbestos can increase a person’s risk for developing lung cancer and lung disease. For this reason, talc must often undergo testing and purification to ensure its safety.

While Dynarex has not yet received any reports of injury or illness from use of the recalled product, the company has stopped all production and distribution while steps are taken to resolve the contamination issues. Consumers can return Dynacare Baby Power from batch B051 with an expiration of 2026/12/28 to their point-of-purchase for a full refund. Distributors and retails should cease sale of the specified batch immediately.

Anyone with questions about the recall can contact Dynarex Corporation at 888-396-2739 or 845-365-8200, Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, EST. The company can  be reached via email at recall@dynarex.com.
