FDA Warns – Dairyland Produce recalls 7 lots of cucumbers sourced from SunFed Produce due to possible Salmonella contamination

Dairyland Produce, LLC, more commonly known as Hardie’s Fresh Foods, is recalling seven lots of whole cucumbers that were sourced from a grower implicated in a nationwide Salmonella outbreak. According to the FDA, Hardie’s issued the recall on Thursday, December 5th.

The recalled product comes packaged in a plastic bag; each bag contains six cucumbers. Hardie’s Fresh Foods distributed the cucumbers to Costco retail stores in Dallas and Houston. The company has not yet provided the date of distribution for the lots included in the recall. The lot numbers for the impacted products are X2377074, X2379602, X2381000, X2381080, X2383400, X2384557, and X2384587. Customers can find the lot number printed on a white and pink sticker affixed to the bag. Along with the bar code and lot number, the label reads, “CUCUMBER SELECT Dairyland Produce, LLC.”

Hardie’s Fresh Foods has not received any reports of illness or injury linked to consumption of the recalled product. The company recalled the product after receiving notice of possible Salmonella contamination from their supplier, SunFed Produce. As reported by the FDA, SunFed produce issued their own cucumber recall on Wednesday, November 27, after testing traced contamination to their grower, Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. Illnesses were reported in connection to the SunFed recall between the dates of October 12th and November 15th.

Salmonella infection typically causes predictable symptoms in healthy people, such as gastrointestinal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and bloody stool. Such infections usually resolve in four to seven days. Infection with Salmonella can be more dangerous for very young children, the elderly, or people who are immunocompromised. Some of the more serious and rare complications associated with Salmonella infection include “arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.” These complications can occur when the infection gets into the bloodstream.

Hardie’s Fresh Foods is no longer producing and distributing the product. They encourage all customers to refrain from eating the recalled cucumbers and to discard of them immediately. Customers should disinfect any surfaces that may have come in contact with the recalled product.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the recall can contact Hardie’s Fresh Foods, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m (CST) at 1-281-697-7067.
