FDA warns – CIBUS Fresh recalls sandwiches made with Glenview Farms Spreadable Brie due to listeria concerns

CIBUS Fresh is recalling three of their pre-packaged sandwiches after receiving notice that the cheese sourced for the products may have been contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. According to the FDA, the company announced the recall on Wednesday, November 6.

The company distributed the sandwiches to retailers in six U.S. states, including Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, and Tennessee. The recalled products were sold under the brand names of CIBUS Fresh (CF), Jack & Olive (J&O), and Sprig and Sprout (S&S). The three sandwiches included on the recall list are the CF/ Autumn Turkey Sandwich 9.65oz (item # 79616 and UPC # 00810028251915), the J&O Autumn Turkey Sandwich 9.65oz (item # 79615 and UPC # 00810028251915), and the S&S Autumn Turkey Sandwich 9.65oz (item # 84408 and UPC # 00810028251915). The expiration date rage for the CF and J&O sandwiches is 11/02/24 to 11/09/24. The range for the S&S sandwich is 11/03/24 to 11/09/24. Customers can check the packaging on their sandwich for the UPC# and expiration date.

CIBUS Fresh initiated the recall after receiving word of a larger national recall involving soft-ripened cheeses produced by Savencia Cheese USA. CIBUS Fresh sourced Glenview Farms Spreadable Brie (Case GTIN # 50758108712312), which is one of the recalled cheeses, for their CF/ Autumn Turkey Sandwich, J&O Autumn Turkey Sandwich, and S&S Autumn Turkey Sandwich. Savencia Cheese announced their recall on Monday, November 4th, after routine testing found evidence of Listeria monocytogenes contamination on the production equipment. Since the recall, CIBUS Fresh says they are no longer sourcing Glenview Farms Spreadable Brie from Savencia Cheese USA for their sandwiches.

The company’s announcement does not indicate whether they have received reports of illness connected to the recalled sandwiches. Consumption of foods contaminated with Listeria can cause infection. The symptoms of listeria infection are often mild in healthy individuals but can be more serious for very young children, the elderly, or people who are immunocompromised. Additionally, listeria infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirth in pregnant women.

CIBUS Fresh advises customers who may have purchased a recalled sandwich to return it to the point of purchase for a full refund.
