According to the FDA, Acme Smoked Fish Corporation is recalling 111 cases of Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon from Costco stores in Florida. The company initiated the recall after lab testing confirmed the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in a sampling of the product.
Acme Smoked Fish Corporation made the announcement on Friday, October 25th, specifying that the recall only applies to Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon from Lot# 8512801270 with a UPC of 0 96619 25697 6. The best by date for the recalled product is 11/13/2024. Acme distributed the product from October 9th to October 13th to the Southeast Costco Distribution Center in West Palm Beach and to Costco retail stores in the state of Florida. Costco sells the product in twin 12-ounce packages bearing the Kirkland Signature logo. Customers can find the Lot # and “Best By Date” stamped on the upper right corner of the package.
While Acme Smoked Fish Corporation has not received any reports of illness linked to the recalled products, consumption of foods containing Listeria monocytogenes can cause illness. According to the FDA, listeria infection causes relatively mild symptoms in most healthy people. These symptoms might include stomach upset with nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting; fever; and body pain. Listeria infection can be dangerous for very young children, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems. More serious symptoms that should prompt a call to the doctor include “headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.” Infection is particularly dangerous for pregnant women, as it can increase the risk of miscarriage and stillbirth.
Acme Smoked Fish Corporation advises customers to refrain from eating the recalled salmon product. Customers can return any packages from the recalled lot to Costco for a full refund. Alternately, customers can discard of the product.
