Green Life Farms, of Lake Worth, Florida, has recalled a single lot of its Baby Arugula, packaged in 4-ounce containers, because the products may contain traces of the organism Salmonella, reports the FDA.
Those infected with Salmonella typically experience diarrhea, fever, and cramps of the abdomen, and other symptoms that appear 12 to 72 hours after ingestion of contaminated food. While healthy individuals tend to pass through the illness anywhere between four to seven days, those with weakened immune systems, including young children and the elderly, are at risk of more severe infections.
Initiated by Green Life Farms on June 7, 2024, the voluntary recall covers clear, 4-ounce plastic containers of Baby Arugula that were sold at select Publix stores starting 5/31/24. Affected containers are marked with Lot #LW15124 and a “sell by” date of 6/15/24, and no other products are covered by the recall.
The company took action after its routine testing showed that a single harvest of its Baby Arugula was positive for Salmonella, indicating a potential for contamination. Consumers should note that corrective action was immediately taken by the company to ensure that other harvests were not affected.
While Green Life Farms has not been alerted to any related illnesses, anyone who may have purchased a 4-ounce container of Baby Arugula matching the affected lot code and “best by” date above should refrain from consuming it. The item may be returned to the point of purchase for a complete refund.
