FDA warns – 1,644 Red Velvet Milk Chocolate Bars recalled by Electric City Sweets due to undeclared milk

Scranton, Pennsylvania-based Electric City Sweets has recalled 1,644 Red Velvet Milk Chocolate Bars because the product label fails to declare the presence of milk in the ingredient and allergen statement.

Individuals who live with an allergy or sensitivity to milk are advised against consuming the bars to avoid the risk of a major, potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

Initiated by Electric City Sweets on February 28, 2024, the recall covers products that were distributed via the company’s online ordering and wholesale accounts to the following metros:

  • Scranton, Pennsylvania
  • Milford, Pennsylvania
  • Delray Beach, Florida
  • Marina Del Rey, California
  • Orlando, Florida
  • North Carolina

Officials say a customer noted to one retailer that a milk-containing product they purchased was sold in packaging that did not list milk as an allergen on its ingredient panel, as is required, even as the allergen is identified on the front panel display.

As can be referenced in the product photo included in the FDA announcement, affected products are 1.750-ounce milk chocolate candy bars listed under Universal Product Code (UPC) #860005974467, packaged in wrappers that bear Lot code 0101461635 and “Best By” date of 05/16/2025, or Lot code 0101542739 and “Best By” date of 05/29/2025. Consumers should note that no other lot codes or Electric City Sweets products are covered by the recall.

At the time of the FDA announcement, Electric City Sweets had not received any reports of related illnesses.

Questions or concerns about the recall may be directed to the company at 1-570-430-8999, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Consumers are also invited to contacted to visit electriccitysweets.com.
