FDA alert – Consumers advised to discard “Hilltop Meadow Farm” brand “60 Day Aged Pepper Jack Raw Milk Cheese” due to potential trace of Listeria

According to the FDA, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture is warning consumers that certain “Hilltop Meadow Farm”-branded “60 Day Aged Pepper Jack Raw Milk Cheese” should be disposed of due to the potential presence of the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes.

Though Listeria in healthy individuals may lead to listeriosis, an illness that produces fever, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea as symptoms, listeriosis presents more of a risk to pregnant women, newborns, elderly people, and others with compromised immune systems. Pregnant women with a Listeria infection could suffer a “miscarriage, premature delivery, serious infection of the newborn, or stillbirth.”

Pine Grove, Pennsylvania-based Hilltop Meadow Farm said the voluntary recall covers products stamped with sell-by dates of 9/21/2023 or earlier. Affected products were sold in 1/2-pound, 1-pound, 2.5-pound, and 5-pound sizes at their farm-based store and the following locations:
